Inter have tabled a £13.5m proposal for Manchester United outcast Matteo Darmian, according to Italian newspaper Leggo, via Eurosport.
Darmian, 26, has only spent one season at United since joining from Serie A side Torino in 2015 but has failed to establish himself in the team and dropped further down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho this season.
The Italy international was heavily linked with a return to his homeland in the summer but now appears to be on the verge of moving back following news Inter have firmed up their interest in the versatile defender.
Frank de Boer’s side have reportedly made an initial £0.9m loan bid with an option to make the switch permanent for a further £12.6m.
United have fared slightly better without Darmian in the team in the Premier League since the start of last season (52.4% win rate) compared to when the Italian starts (50%).
