Barcelona have been given renewed hope in their quest to re-sign Hector Bellerin after the Arsenal right-back labelled talk of a return to the Camp Nou as ‘special’.
Bellerin left Barcelona to join Arsenal in 2013 and but is wanted back by Luis Enrique’s side as they look to find a long-term replacement for Dani Alves, who left the club last summer.
The Spain international only put pen to paper on a new six-and-a-half-year deal in November, which seemingly put an end to reports linking him back to Barcelona, but Arsenal’s turbulent campaign may have caused Bellerin to re-think his future.
However, it would still seem unlikely that Bellerin would return to Barcelona this summer given the manner in which he left the club, coupled with the fact the La Liga giants would have to pay an enormous fee to land him.
“It’s nice there are a lot of big clubs that are interested in me, but if one of those is Barcelona that’s special,” Bellerin told Spanish outlet SPORT. “I don’t forget I grew up in that home and I will never forget my stay at Barcelona.
“I left Barcelona because I felt the club was not confident in me, I didn’t feel valued, disenchanted.”
Barcelona would also face competition from Manchester City should Bellerin be available for sale in the summer, with Pep Guardiola desperate to land the Spaniard in order to solve one of his problems at right-back.
In the last two Premier League campaigns no defender has completed more dribbles than Bellerin (95).
