Morata’s agent confirms Manchester United offer

The agent of Alvaro Morata has confirmed there is an offer on the table from Manchester United and now it is down to Real Madrid to accept before a deal can be concluded.

Morata has emerged as United’s No.1 target to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jose Mourinho’s side are growing increasingly confident of pulling off a £60m deal for his services.

United were thought to be in competition with AC Milan for the 24-year-old but Juanma Lopez has revealed their offer for Morata was deemed ‘unsatisfactory’ by Madrid, paving the way for United to have a free run at the transfer.

“There were frequent contacts with us until a few days ago,” he told Calciomercato when asked about Milan’s offer, via Football Italia.

“I can confirm that. Quite simply Real Madrid found the Rossonero offer to be unsatisfactory. Manchester United? It’s a club with great glamour, a very interesting option.

“I can say that their offer is a very, very important one and now the decision goes to Real. We’ll see.”

Morata only rejoined Madrid from Juventus last summer after Zinedine Zidane's side activated a £26m buy-back clause but the Spain international has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI and now appears destined to leave his boyhood club for the second time in his career.

The promise of reuniting with Mourinho and becoming an important player for United is thought to have swayed Morata’s decision to want to move to Old Trafford and the Red Devils will hope he can fill the void left by Ibrahimovic.

Of players that scored at least five goals in La Liga last season, only Lionel Messi (1 every 76.5 minutes of action) required fewer minutes per goal than Morata (1 every 88.7 minutes of action), who scored 15 times despite the fact only 14 of his 26 league appearances came as starts.
