Chelsea confident of keeping star man amid Barcelona interest

Chelsea are not concerned about rumoured interest from Barcelona in star defender Cesar Azpilicueta, reports The Daily Mail.

Reports have emerged suggesting the Spain international has been earmarked as a top transfer target for new Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde.

Azpilicueta was a pillar of consistency for Chelsea during their title-winning campaign this season and was one of six players nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award.

The 27-year-old only signed a new deal in December keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2020 and Chelsea are confident that Barcelona’s interest will prove short-lived.

Azpilicueta was one of just three outfielders that played every single minute of Premier League action this season, while only four defenders won more tackles and interceptions combined than the versatile Chelsea defender (155).
