Lee Cattermole has signed a new five-year contract with Sunderland, the club has confirmed.
The 27-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal on Wednesday afternoon that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2020.
"Lee is the controller of the side. He is a motivator, a leader and central to the success of our team. To know that he is with us for many years to come us very important to the club," Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat told the club’s official website of Cattermole’s new deal.
The English midfielder made 28 league appearances for Sunderland last season, gaining a WhoScored rating of 6.83.
