Manchester United to rival Manchester City for Premier League star
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wants to rival Manchester City for the signature of Arsenal wantaway Alexis Sanchez, reports The Sun.
Sanchez has entered the final 12 months of his existing Arsenal contract and is unlikely to renew after failing in his attempts to leave the club over the summer.
The Chile international’s proposed £60m move to City fell through on the final day of the summer transfer window and Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to return for the Arsenal No.7 in January.
It remains to be seen whether Guardiola will try and sign Sanchez for a cut-price deal at the start of next year or wait until the end of the season when the 28-year-old’s contract expires.
However, Guardiola now faces competition from city rivals United as Mourinho looks to bolster his offensive options with Sanchez’s signature.
Sanchez has only started one Premier League game this season after returning from pre-season later than his Arsenal team-mates, but did manage to score his first goal of the campaign during the club’s 3-1 win at home to Cologne in the Europa League last week.
Since the start of last season, only Wilfried Zaha (135) has been dispossessed more times than Sanchez (129) in the Premier League.
