Juventus or Roma must pay Chelsea £5m compensation fee for Sarri

Chelsea will not block Maurizio Sarri from returning to Italy this summer but will demand Juventus or Roma cough up £5m in compensation, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Sarri has endured a turbulent first season in charge of Chelsea despite leading the club to two cup finals and a third place finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City on penalties but will have the chance to go one better when they play London rivals Arsenal in the Europa League final later this month.

Despite what appears a successful season on paper, all is not well at Chelsea and Sarri’s future may well hinge on whether the Blues win the Europa League final.

Even that may not be enough to save Sarri’s skin, as Chelsea are happy for Sarri to return to Italy if Juventus and Roma firm up their interest.

They are on the market for a new manager this season and both are interested in Sarri, who transformed Napoli into the second best team in Italy prior to joining Chelsea last summer.

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has already been touted as Sarri’s potential replacement this summer after leading Derby to the play-off final in his first season in management.

Juventus and Roma would have been hoping Chelsea would sack Sarri before making their move for the 60-year-old but the Premier League side will only release him if they receive £5m in compensation.

Sarri has lot 12 of his first 60 matches in charge of Chelsea and has a win rate of 62.9%, less than his win ratio during a three-year stint in charge of Napoli (66.2%).
