Barcelona are interested in signing Tottenham star Christian Eriksen after failing to convince Liverpool to sell Philippe Coutinho, reports The Independent.
The Spanish giants were dealt a huge blow on Friday when Liverpool announced Philippe Coutinho was categorically not for sale at any price this summer, although it has now emerged the Brazil international has handed in a transfer request.
Barcelona are determined to make at least one big splash in the transfer window after selling Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for £193m but have so far struggled to make serious inroads in their attempts to sign Liverpool ace Coutinho and Borussia Dortmund youngster Ousmane Dembele.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have now made Eriksen a top transfer target but it will arguably be even more difficult to prize the Denmark international away from Tottenham given how difficult it is to deal with chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham are entering a make or break period for the club this month in the wake of Danny Rose’s damaging comments about the club’s transfer activity and wage structure.
Eriksen will also not come cheap. The 24-year-old signed a new four-year deal with Tottenham less than 12 months ago and would likely cost in the region of £100m with all things considered in the current market.
No player has attempted more shots from outside the penalty area in the last three Premier League campaigns than Eriksen (231). Not only that, but Eriksen also made more key passes (112) in England’s top-flight last term.
