DC United smash club transfer record

DC United have announced they have completed a deal to sign Boca Juniors midfielder Luciano Acosta for an undisclosed club-transfer record fee.

Acosta, who will take one of their Designated Player positions, joined the MLS franchise on an initial season-long loan deal at the start of the 2016 campaign having previously spent a year on loan with Argentine outfit Estudiantes.

DC United have previously never spent more than £600k on a player since they signed Matías Donnet from Argentine side Banfield back in 2006, and the MLS side have announced the fee paid is nearly the largest invested by a franchise in a decade.

“This substantial investment demonstrates our ownership’s commitment to our continued success on the pitch in the coming years,” DC United’s general manager and vice president of soccer operations told their official club website.

“We are excited to obtain Lucho’s services for the long-term. Ben, the rest of the coaching staff and I were impressed with how much Lucho grew as a player over the course of his first season in MLS. His rapid development and acclimation to a new league, country, team and culture are a sure sign of things to come.”
