Chelsea to rekindle interest in striker from January

Chelsea are weighing up a fresh move for Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente as their extensive search for new strikers continues, claims The London Evening Standard.

Antonio Conte’s side appear set to miss out on top transfer target Romelu Lukaku and will now need to go back to the drawing board as they seek replacements for wantaway forward Diego Costa.

Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for Llorente in January only for the former Juventus striker to turn down the chance to reunite with Conte in order to help keep Swansea clear of relegation.

Llorente played a key role in the club’s survival and Chelsea are now considering a move for the experienced Spaniard, who is expected to miss all of pre-season after breaking his arm on holiday.

The 32-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his Swansea deal but Paul Clement’s side want to keep the striker despite already signing Tammy Abraham on loan from the Premier League champions.

Llorente finished last season with 15 Premier League goals to his name, while only Christian Benteke scored as many headed goals as the Swansea No.9 (both 7).
