Barcelona in talks to sign Lyon captain Memphis Depay

Barcelona are looking to reunite new head coach Ronald Koeman with Lyon striker Memphis Depay, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

With Luis Suarez on the brink of joining Juventus, Barcelona are on the market for a new striker and have failed in their attempts to prise Lautaro Martinez from Inter.

Having managed and made Depay captain during his time as the Netherlands boss, Koeman now wants to bring the former Manchester United flop to Camp Nou.

Depay has entered the final 12 months of his current Lyon deal and made it clear he does not want to renew.

The French side have been planning for Memphis' departure all summer but the interest of Barcelona has come as a surprise.

Working off a limited budget this summer, Barcelona are also trying to include former Lyon centre-back Samuel Umtiti in the deal to reduce Memphis' price.

Umtiti is now deemed surplus to requirements by Barcelona and the Spanish side are desperate to offload the 2018 World Cup winner to ease their financial woes.

Memphis scored a hat-trick in Lyon's first league game of the 2020/21 campaign - the only player in Europe's top five leagues to do so thus far.

Since joining Lyon from United in January 2017, the 26-year-old has 78 goal involvements in 102 league games.
