German creator returns to training in Euro boost

Wolfsburg forward Julian Draxler has returned to training to give a boost to Germany head coach Joachim Low ahead of the Euros next month.

Draxler hasn’t featured for Wolfsburg since tearing a muscle in his thigh against Real Madrid in the Champions League a month ago.

The 22-year-old’s place in Low’s Germany squad had been placed in doubt following his injury but he is now expected to feature in Wolfsburg’s final game of the season at the weekend in a bid to prove his fitness to the national team coach before he announces his provisional 31-man squad on Tuesday.

“I managed to take complete part in first team training today and I have no pain anymore,” Draxler is quoted as saying by DW Sports.

“So I assume that I’ll be in the squad on Saturday and will be in top condition by the time the Euros come around.

“When I first suffered the injury, I called Germany coach Joachim Low, he was worried and wanted to have weekly updates. There has only been positive news to give and he was quickly relieved.”

Draxler took his time to settle in at Wolfsburg initially after he was signed to replace Kevin de Bruyne last summer.

However, the Wolfsburg No.10 has played a direct hand in seven goals (five goals, two assists) in his last 10 matches for the Bundesliga outfit and has completed more dribbles than any other teammate in the German top-flight this season (54).
