Middlesbrough beat Napoli for Atalanta midfielder

Middlesbrough have fended off competition from Napoli to agree a €12m (£9.9m) deal with Atalanta for midfielder Marten De Roon, according Gazzamercato, via Football Italia.

De Roon, 25, only joined Atalanta from Heerenveen last summer but his combative nature in the middle of the park has already seen him linked with a high profile move away this summer.

His performances at the heart of Atalanta’s midfield had drawn speculation linking him with a move to Napoli but Middlesbrough have seemingly won the race for his signature.

Boro have had a bid of almost £10m accepted for the Dutchman and are reportedly going to offer him a four-year deal that would almost double his current salary.
