Arsenal could potentially be without star midfielder Santi Cazorla for the foreseeable future after he was advised by specialists to undergo surgery to correct his Achilles tendon injury, reports The IB Times.
Cazorla, 31, has not featured for Arsenal since October and was expected to return around the festive period after suffering a setback in his recovery, although that could now be off the cards.
Arsene Wenger has previously admitted to not knowing when the Spain international would return to first team action, but with surgery now in the pipeline he doesn’t look likely to feature until 2017.
Cazorla’s absence at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield has been sorely missed since he last featured against Ludogorets. In fact, Arsenal have not lost any of the seven league matches the Spaniard has started (85.7% win ratio) compared to just two of the six league matches they’ve not had Cazorla to start (33.3%).
