Atletico Madrid announce £22.6m deal for England international
Atletico Madrid have confirmed the arrival of Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier in a deal worth a reported €25m (£22.6m).
Trippier has been signed as a replacement for Juanfran and has put pen to paper on a three-year deal running until the summer of 2023.
Tottenham put up the England international for sale at the end of last season after a testing 12 months for club and country.
Trippier was one of England’s best players at the 2018 World Cup but failed to rediscover the same form last season.
The 28-year-old played with an injury all the way through last season and he even lost his place in the England squad at the end of the campaign.
Juventus and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the Tottenham right-back but Atletico have won the race for his signature.
Atletico have even been linked with a move for Tottenham creative midfielder Christian Eriksen as a possible alternative to Real Madrid outcast James Rodriguez.
Since August 2017, no defender has completed more crosses (excluding corners) than Trippier in the Premier League (53).
