Inter have blocked Atletico Madrid’s attempt to sign captain Mauro Icardi, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Marca.
Despite being made captain by Inter manager Roberto Mancini at the start of last season, Icardi has been heavily linked with a move way from San Siro with a high profile move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Atletico are desperate to add a world-class striker to their ranks to ease the burden on Antoine Griezmann next season but may be forced to look elsewhere after having a €50m (£41m) bid for Icardi rejected.
In the last three Serie A campaigns on Gonzalo Higuain (47) has scored more clear-cut chances than Icardi (33).
