Stoke City manager Mark Hughes is considering a January move for former Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, according to The Daily Mirror.
The Potters had hoped to secure a permanent deal for Derby County shotstopper Lee Grant next month but Hughes is not interested in being held to ransom by the Championship outfit and is now looking at alternative options.
With Jack Butland still on the mend having been out of action since March, the need to sign a goalkeeper is a priority for Hughes and the Stoke manager is now weighing up a move to re-sign Begovic from Chelsea.
The 29-year-old left Stoke to join the Blues in 2015 but has spent all of his time at Stamford Bridge as an understudy to Thibaut Courtois and could be tempted to return to the Bet365 Stadium by the allure of first-team football.
Begovic is unlikely to receive any game time at Chelsea unless Courtois picks up an injury, with Chelsea already out of the EFL Cup and without European football this season.
Of goalkeepers to have made at least 100 appearances in the last five Premier League campaigns only two have a better save success rate than Begovic (70.7%).
