Liverpool goalkeeper going nowhere, says agent

The agent of underfire Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius insists his client has no intention of returning to Germany and wants to battle Simon Mignolet for the No.1 jersey at Anfield next season.

Karius joined Liverpool from Jurgen Klopp’s former side Mainz last summer in a deal worth £4.7m and the former Germany U21 international was expected to replace Mignolet as the club’s new long-term goalkeeper.

However, the 23-year-old endured a difficult time in England as soon as he arrived. A broken hand in pre-season saw Mignolet start the season in goal and then Karius was dropped from the team even when he got his chance to replace the Belgium international midway through last season.

Mignolet finished the season as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and Karius’ agent, Florian Goll, has been forced to deny suggestions Liverpool will sell his client after just 12 months at the club.

“There is absolutely nothing to the rumours that Karius will leave,” he told Goal. “He did not sign at Liverpool for the short term.

"He believes in the vision of the manager and he wants to be fully fit and prepared to fight for the No.1 position from the first day back.

“He has already started his individual programme to keep fit during the summer, because he wants to be completely ready when pre-season starts. He is extremely motivated by the competition.”

Of goalkeepers that made at least 10 appearances in the Premier League last season only seven had a worse save success rate than Karius (62.5%).
