Dembele’s future at Celtic depends on Champions League qualifiers

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed the Scottish giants will not contemplate selling star striker Moussa Dembele until the outcome of their Champions League qualifiers.

Rodgers has no intention of selling Dembele this summer but appreciates Celtic will find it hard to keep the talented 20-year-old striker if they fail to make the Champions League group stages.

Celtic are due to play a Champions League qualifier later this month and Rodgers has confirmed nothing will happen with Dembele until after those matches.

“Moussa is very content and happy,” the London Evening Standard quote Rodgers as saying. “He is not a player we want to sell, but we know how football works and we’ll see what happens.

“But certainly not until after the Champions League qualifiers, there won’t be anything done before then.“

West Ham had a £20m bid for the former Fulham striker rejected in January, while Chelsea have also been heavily linked with a move for the France U21 international.

Only Liam Boyce (23) and Scott Sinclair (21) scored more goals in the Scottish Premiership last season than Dembele (17), who also chipped in with three goals in six Champions League matches last term.
