Manchester United not interested in Monaco star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho does not want to sign Fabinho this summer contrary to reports the Premier League giants were poised to complete a stunning €50m (£44m) deal for the Monaco midfielder, claims Manchester Evening News.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting United had fended off competition from their European rivals to secure Fabinho’s services as Mourinho looks to add another holding midfielder to his squad for next season.

However, those claims are wide of the mark. While United have identified the arrival of a new central midfielder as one of four areas in the team that need addressing this summer, Fabinho does not feature on Mourinho’s list of transfer targets.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stunning season with Ligue 1 champions Monaco last season and has already been linked with a big money transfer to Juventus, but Mourinho is actually targeting a summer move for Chelsea ace Nemanja Matic and Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier.

In the last two seasons Fabinho has scored the most penalties in Europe’s top five leagues (13).
