Chelsea interested in surprise deal for Premier League striker

Chelsea are interested in signing Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, claims The Daily Mirror.

The Cherries have enjoyed a remarkable start to the season and Wilson’s form in front of goal has been contributing factor.

Wilson only signed a new four-year deal in July but Bournemouth could face a fight to keep the 26-year-old.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri wanted to sign a new striker in the summer but missed out on a reunion with Gonzalo Higuain.

Alvaro Morata has hit a purple patch of form but the jury is still out on the Spaniard and Chelsea will continue to scout Wilson.

Gareth Southgate is set to reward Wilson with a place in his England squad for upcoming matches against USA and Croatia, which he will name on Thursday.

Chelsea could even make a move for Wilson as early as January if the Bournemouth striker continues to excel for Eddie Howe’s side for the rest of the year.

Wilson scored his sixth league goal of the campaign in Bournemouth’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday and has now played a direct hand in 10 goals in 11 appearances (six goals, four assists).

In fact, only Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Eden Hazard (all 11) have scored or assisted more Premier League goals than Wilson this season.

Furthermore, only Bournemouth team-mate Ryan Fraser (12) has created more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities than Wilson (seven) this term.
