Manchester City to sign new goalkeeper this summer

Manchester City will look to sign a new goalkeeper at the end of the season as the pressure grows on Claudio Bravo, reports The Daily Mail.

Pep Guardiola made the decision to replace Joe Hart with Bravo in the summer but the former Barcelona goalkeeper’s performances have come in for fierce criticism since making the £15.4m move in the summer.

The Chile international is also reportedly looking for a route back to Spain after making such an abysmal start to life in the Premier League, although Guardiola has previously denied those suggestions.

With Willy Caballero’s current deal due to expire at the end of the season, City will certainly need to address the goalkeeping position but it remains to be seen whether Guardiola will seek a goalkeeper that will serve as an understudy to Bravo or actually replace the 33-year-old between the sticks.

Bravo wasn’t the only goalkeeper City signed last summer. The Citizens also wrapped up a deal to sign Geronimo Rulli before selling him to Real Sociedad a few weeks later, although they are believed to have an option to re-sign the 24-year-old.

City are also reportedly tracking the progress of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, while Benfica’s Ederson remains another option. Despite performing well for Torino this season, Hart isn’t thought to have a future at City at the end of the season.

Only Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster (54.8%) has a lower save success rate than Bravo in the Premier League this season (55.4%).
