French champions raid Ligue 1 counterpart for second signing

Monaco have announced the signing of young defender Jordy Gaspar from Lyon via their official Twitter account.

The 20-year-old arrives on a free transfer to become the new Ligue 1 champions’ second signing of the summer following the arrival of Youri Tielemens from Anderlecht.

Gaspar is a French youth international but failed to make his mark on the senior side at OL, starting just twice in the league last season, along with one appearance in the Champions League at Sevilla.

The youngster swells Monaco’s defensive ranks, which at times were exposed in Europe in particular last season through suspensions. The right-back’s arrival could further fuel reports of an exit from Djibril Sidibe, who only arrived from Lille one year ago but is believed to have attracted interest from Tottenham.

Gaspar’s last league appearance for Lyon came in a 2-1 win over Bastia back in November.
