Barcelona learn how much it will cost to land Liverpool midfielder

Liverpool have informed Barcelona that it will cost £15m to sign Georginio Wijnaldum this summer, reports The Mirror on Sunday.

Wijnaldum has been a key member of this Liverpool side under Jurgen Klopp, but the Dutchman has less than 12 months left to run on his current Reds deal.

Newly appointed head coach Ronald Koeman wants to bring his compatriot to Camp Nou, however they were hoping to land Wijnaldum for around £10m.

Liverpool paid £23m to sign Wijnaldum from Newcastle four years ago and they are looking to recoup as much of that as possible to they continue to monitor Thiago.

The Spaniard has dismissed reports of any exit talk, but Liverpool remain keen on the midfielder and they need to raise funds if they are to strengthen this summer.

The Premier League champions had hoped to convince Wijnaldum to remain at Anfield, yet are prepared to sanction his sale rather than lose the 29-year-old on a free next summer.

Wijnaldum was a regular under Koeman during his time as Netherlands head coach as Barcelona gear up for a summer rebuild with a host of Blaugrana stars up for sale.

While Liverpool and Barcelona are yet to agree a fee for Wijnaldum, both sides are confident that a compromise will be found before the transfer window closes.
