Conte wants to reunite with former midfield general

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is hoping for a reunion with Bayern midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to the Sun.

The duo worked together at Juventus before Conte’s decision to step down as head coach for the Serie A giants and instead take over at Italy.

Vidal only moved to Bayern 18 months ago, but Chelsea will explore the possibility of taking the all-action midfield man to England having scoffed at Roma’s asking price for Radja Nainggolan.

The Belgium international had been the Blues’ top target over the summer, but were not prepared to pay the £51.5m asking price that Roma demanded for the player.

Chelsea boss Conte has a good relationship with Vidal and is boosted by the £60m received from the sale of Oscar.

An opening £34m offer is in the pipeline, yet Bayern could well hold out for offers of upwards of £40m, especially with they aware of the huge cash windfall from the Blues’ sale of Oscar.

Vidal, 29, has started nine times for Bayern in the Bundesliga this season, but the German outfit have a ready made replacement in Renato Sanches should they cash in on the Chilean in January.
