Bayern Munich winger has ankle surgery

Bayern Munich have announced Kingsley Coman faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing ankle surgery.

Coman damaged ligaments in his left ankle in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Hertha Berlin after coming on as a second half substitute.

Further tests were conducted after the match and Bayern have now confirmed that Coman went under the knife on Monday.

Bayern have not put a definitive time scale on Coman’s return but there are reports suggesting he could be sidelined for up to two months.

The 21-year-old has only started 10 Bundesliga matches this season, making a further 11 appearances from the bench.

Coman, who has struggled to usurp Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in the pecking order, has played a direct hand in 10 goals across league and European competition.

Despite struggling for regular playing time during his three years at the club, Coman has completed the most dribbles in the Bundesliga since August 2015 (168).
