Dutchman commits to Southampton

Southampton manager Ronaldo Koeman insists he intends to see out the remainder of his contract at the club after securing Europa League football.

Koeman’s side are guaranteed to finish at least sixth in the Premier League this season, but the Southampton manager has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Roberto Martinez at Everton.

However, the Dutchman intends to honour the 12 months left on his contract at the Saint Mary’s club after their 4-1 over Crystal Palace on the last day of the season granted them a place in the Europa League next season.

“I still have a one-year contract,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I spoke to the board and we had the meetings and it’s always my wish to stay because I live the club, fans and players.”

“We understand every time its (the ambition) more difficult because we need to improve, and expectation will be higher than it was two years ago and if we have the same ambition again then no problem.”

Southampton have been in sublime form since the turn of the year. In fact, only Leicester (42) have won more points in the Premier League in 2016 than Southampton (39).
