Manchester United to revive interest in summer target in January
Jose Mourinho is hopeful that Manchester United will follow up their interest in Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini in January, The Sun reports.
The Italy international was identified as a target over the summer but the club failed to make a move having already signed Brazilian middle man Fred.
The 22-year-old is still on the clubs radar, however, and Mourinho is keen to add a box-to-box midfielder to his ranks.
Pellegrini only rejoined Roma last summer but is seen as a future star for both club and country, having started 22 of 28 Serie A appearances last season, scoring three times and registering four assists.
Those figures were down from six apiece respectively in his final season at Sassuolo, but the youngster’s ability to contribute at both ends, with and without the ball, is key to United’s interest.
The Italian was an unused substitute in Roma’s opening weekend win over Torino but is still expected to play a big part for the capital city club this season.
