Spurs outcast set for Newcastle switch

Newcastle are set to sign Tottenham outcast Andros Townsend on a six-month loan deal with a view to a permanent £12m move at the end of the season, claims the London Evening Standard.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy had been holding out for his £14m evaluation of the England international and initially wasn’t interested in sending the winger out on loan.

Steve McClaren’s outfit had faced competition from Fiorentina, but the Serie A side failed to match the wages that were being offered by other clubs.

However, Newcastle have moved to the front of the pile to sign the 24-year-old, who is still hoping to earn a spot in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the Euro’s in the summer.

Townsend hasn’t featured for Spurs in the Premier League since getting three minutes against Liverpool on October 17. He has instead been forced to stay fit with the Spurs Under-21’s, where he has flourished in recent weeks.
