Roy Hodgson extends Crystal Palace deal

Crystal Palace have announced Roy Hodgson has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2020.

The Eagles appointed the former England manager in September and guided the club well clear of the bottom three.

Hodgson’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current campaign but Palace have moved to secure his services for at least one more year.

“I am delighted to have extended my contract with Crystal Palace,” he told the club’s official website.

“It is a club that has been close to my heart since I was a youngster growing up in the borough of Croydon, and having stood on the terraces in the 1950s, it is a wonderful thing to be managing my boyhood club all these years later.

“We can be proud of our achievements last season in turning things around despite a poor start, but this year we want to ensure we don’t endure the same struggles.

“I am thrilled that I have the support of the owners, who believe that I am the right man to help this club move forward and I will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Roy Hodgson extends Crystal Palace deal

Palace were bottom of the Premier League when Hodgson took charge but ended the season 11th and 11 points clear of the drop zone.

The Eagles fended off interest from Tottenham and Chelsea in Wilfried Zaha over the summer, bolstering their chances of breaking into the top half of the table this time around.

Had the Premier League started when Hodgson took charge of his first game, then Palace actually would have cracked the top-10.
