Alderweireld signs new Tottenham deal

Tottenham have announced Toby Alderweireld has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year deal running until the summer of 2023.

Alderweireld's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season and he was expected to leave on a free transfer.

Tottenham were willing to sell Alderweireld in the summer but failed to find a willing buyer.

However, the north London outfit have now confirmed Alderweireld has pledged his long-term future to the club.

Alderweireld has spent the last four years at Tottenham and has forged a formidable defensive partnership with Jan Vertonghen in that time.

Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Alderweireld during his time as Manchester United manager and his arrival at Tottenham has convinced the 30-year-old to stay at the club.

Since the beginning of last season,  only Conor Coady (367) has completed more long balls than Alderweireld (316) of all outfielders in the Premier League.
