Burnley goalkeeper signs new contract

Burnley have announced Nick Pope has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal running until 2020 with an option to a further 12 months.

Pope has excelled between the sticks in the absence of first choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who is sidelined for the next three months with a dislocated shoulder.

The 25-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire in 2019 but he has now secured a bumper new deal, although Burnley manager Sean Dyche insists it’s been in the pipeline for some time now.

“We were already in discussions with Nick before he had the chance to start the games he has done recently and we’re pleased they have been finalised,” manager Sean Dyche told the club’s official website.

“He had been working hard to continue his development out of the team. He is continuing that since he got into the side and we look forward to him progressing further as an important member of the squad.”
