RB Leipzig have announced the arrival of Arsenal starlet Emile Smith-Rowe on loan for the rest of the season.
Leipzig wanted to re-sign Ademola Lookman from Everton but have conceded defeat in their pursuit of the winger.
The Bundesliga side also wanted to include an option to make Smith-Rowe’s move from Arsenal permanent in the summer but the 18-year-old is highly thought of at the Emirates.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery handed Smith-Rowe his first-team debut in September and the teenager featured prominently during their Europa League group stage.
Smith-Rowe hasn’t played since scoring in a 3-0 win away to Vorskla at the end of November, though a hip injury has kept him sidelined for some time since then.
Of Arsenal players that have started more than one Europa League game this season, only two average more shots per game than Smith-Rowe (2.3). Furthermore, Smith-Rowe is Arsenal’s joint top scorer in the competition (two goals).
