Liverpool enter race to sign long-ball specialist

Liverpool are ready to go battle it out with rivals Arsenal for the signature of Gladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to German paper Bild.

Xhaka, 23, still has four years left to run on his current deal and it is reported Gladbach will demand a fee in the region of £20m to part ways with the German.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield in January and it’s been suggested he has earmarked Xhaka as an ideal candidate, but he will face competition from Arsenal who have also been strongly linked with the player.

Xhaka is a player that likes to play the ball forward, furthering his statistically calculated strength of ‘long balls’. In fact, no outfield is averaging more accurate long balls per game than Xhaka in the Bundesliga this season (9.4).
