Everton pull plug on deal for Celtic star Tierney

Everton have ended their brief pursuit of Celtic star Kieran Tierney, reports BBC Sport.

Marco Silva has made signing a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines a top priority this summer and had identified Tierney as a potential target.

The 21-year-old is regarded as the brightest talent in Scotland and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the last 12 months.

Celtic are in no rush to sell the Scotland international after Tierney signed a new six-year deal last year.

The Scottish champions are reportedly holding out for in excess of £25m and Everton have decided to walk away and pursue alternative targets.

It remains to be seen whether Everton are testing Celtic’s resolve or Silva’s side are purely now looking at other left-backs.

The Toffees are yet to make a single signing this summer and it’s likely that Silva will have to sell off some of the deadwood at the club before he can buy.

Tierney finished last season as Celtic’s highest WhoScored rated player (2+ appearances) in the Champions League (6.78).
