Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold talks with Atletico Madrid over a potential move for Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium international spent last season on loan with Premier League side Southampton, who had been keen to secure the services of the 26-year-old centre-back on a permanent basis.
However, the south coast club appear to have dropped behind Spurs in the race to sign Alderweireld, with the north London outfit hoping to come to an agreement with Atletico over the sale of the defender.
Alderweireld made 26 league starts for Saints last season, gaining a WhoScored rating of 7.07.
Should Spurs bring the Belgian to White Hart Lane, he will be the club’s third summer signing after Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier.
