Real Madrid to spend up to £100m on new goalkeeper

Real Madrid expect they will have to spend up to £100m to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, reports The Independent.

Madrid president Florentino Perez will finally look to sign a Galactico goalkeeper to replace Keylor Navas at the end of the season, with Manchester United star David de Gea and Chelsea ace Thibaut Courtois the frontrunners.

The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for De Gea in the past and were even on the brink of signing the 27-year-old in the summer of 2015, only for a faulty fax machine to scupper the deal.

While Madrid are still interested in the United star, there is a growing feeling that prising Courtois away from Chelsea will prove the more straightforward transfer of the two.

Chelsea are desperate to convince Courtois to sign a new long-term deal but the Belgium international has not agreed terms to a new deal and constantly speaks about his desire to return to Madrid.

The 25-year-old spent three years on loan at Atletico Madrid and his children all still live in the Spanish capital, which is where he has confirmed he wants to return at one point during his career.

Whoever Madrid end up going for, Perez knows he will have to make them the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time.

In the Premier League this season, De Gea (15) has kept the most clean sheets, followed by Courtois in second (14).
