Real Madrid legend praises Paris Saint-Germain amid transfer rumours
Real Madrid icon and Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has fuelled suggestions he could join Paris Saint-Germain this summer after hailing the French side as one of the top clubs in Europe.
PSG have emerged as surprise suitors for the 36-year-old since Antero Henrique, who signed Casillas at Porto from Madrid, took over as the club’s sporting director.
Casillas has spent the last two years at Porto after being unceremoniously forced out of Madrid by then-manager Jose Mourinho but his current deal is due to expire this summer and he will be available on a free.
This summer has been billed as one of the most important in PSG’s short history and while the need to address their goalkeeping situation is not at the top of list of priorities, Casillas has only added further fuel to the story.
“They are one of the most important teams in Europe,” Casillas told L’Equipe when asked about a summer move. “With their players, their team, their stadium, they are clearly a club who deserve to play in a final.”
Casillas kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s big six leagues this season (19).
