West Ham considering former Tottenham star to ease injury crisis

 

 

West Ham are pondering a move for Ajax forward and ex-Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn this month to ease their injury crisis, reports the Standard. 

 

The Hammers are sweating on the fitness of Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta after both sustained knocks in Sunday's 1-1 FA Cup draw with Bristol City. 

 

With Michail Antonio sidelined for the foreseeable future and Mohammed Kudus on international duty with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations, David Moyes is looking to add reinforcements to the frontline. 

 

And Bergwijn has emerged as a potential target for the Hammers 18 months after he left rivals Spurs for Ajax. 

 

West Ham have a solid working relationship with the Dutch side having signed both Kudus and Edson Alvarez from Ajax over the summer. 

 

 

However, any deal for Bergwijn is dependent on player sales, with Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma and Maxwel Cornet all available for transfer this month. 

 

The 26-year-old Netherlands international has scored seven goals and laid on two assists for Ajax this season.

 

The Dutch powerhouse currently sit fifth in the Eredivisie following a dire start to the campaign having picked up just five points from their opening eight games.
