Juventus target set to leave on a free next summer

Liverpool have failed to make a breakthrough in contract talks with Emre Can and the midfielder is poised to leave on a free at the end of the season, reports The Daily Mail.

The Merseysiders have been locked in contract talks with Can since June 2016 but talks have stalled to the point where the Germany international now looks destined to leave when his current deal expires in the summer.

Can has reportedly made it clear he will only sign a new deal if a release clause is included, but Liverpool are not interested in bowing to that demand after refusing Philippe Coutinho the same wish.

However, it now means that Can will be free to discuss terms with foreign clubs about a pre-contractual agreement in January when he will only have six months remaining on his existing deal, with Juventus the frontrunners for his signature.

The Serie A giants failed to prise Can away from Anfield over the summer and are now expected to snap the German up on a free after earmarking him as the ideal long-term replacement for international compatriot Sami Khedira.

Since the start of last season, only Christian Benteke (94) and Oriol Romeu (86) have committed more fouls in the Premier League than Can (79).
