Sporting have announced sought after winger Gelson Martins has put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2022.
Martins, 21, still had more than four years remaining on his existing deal at the club but Jorge Jesus’ side have moved to secure his long-term future and end rumours of a potential exit at the end of the season.
The Portugal international had been linked with a move to Manchester United after making a real impression in the Champions League group stages against Real Madrid but any suitor will now have to match his new €60m (£51.5m) release clause.
Only Braga forward Wilson Eduardo (8) has registered more assists in the Portuguese Liga Nos than Martins this season (7), while the Sporting ace has completed the most dribbles (46).
