Valencia deny agreeing €35m deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder

Valencia have not agreed to make Goncalo Guedes’ loan stint permanent in a €35m (£30.9m) deal contrary to reports, claims AS

French outlet L'Equipe have claimed this week that Los Che struck an agreement to pay Paris Saint-Germain €35m to make Guedes’ loan switch permanent.

The Portugal international has been a revelation for Valencia since joining on an initial season-long loan deal over the summer but suggestions a deal has already been agreed is premature.

Valencia want to keep Guedes at the club but must wait to see whether they qualify for the Champions League next season before being in a position where they can budget for players.

Marcelino’s side are currently third and eight points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and have only won one of their last four matches. Real Madrid are only three points behind them with a game in hand, which leaves Valencia clinging on to a place in the top four.

Guedes returned from injury in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Eibar and his return will give Valencia a boost ahead of their final game of 2017 at home to Villarreal this weekend.

In fact, Valencia are unbeaten in La Liga with Guedes in the starting XI, winning seven of eight matches. Without the 21-year-old in the starting XI, Marcelino’s side have only won three of eight matches and score significantly fewer goals per game.
