Manchester United veteran could leave in January

Antonio Valencia is open to leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, reports The Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old has spent the last nine years at United and has successfully converted to a powerful right-back since Mourinho was appointed manager in 2016.

However, Valencia has fallen down the pecking order since liking an Instagram post at the start of October calling for United to sack Mourinho.

United signed Diogo Dalot from Porto in the summer and Mourinho declared the teenager the club’s right-back for the next decade earlier this month.

Dalot is now expected to feature prominently for the rest of the season, while even Ashley Young has moved above Valencia in the pecking order.

Valencia’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and United are yet to offer the veteran a new deal.

The United captain now accepts he is unlikely to win back Mourinho’s trust and is now open to leaving the club next month.

Under Mourinho, United have a better win ratio when Valencia has started (59.7%) compared to when he has not featured from the off (43.3%) in the Premier League.
