Marseille are said to be closing in on a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez according to La Provence.
A deal in the region of €2m is thought to be in place for the Colombia international to make a return to Ligue 1, having spent six years at Valenciennes between 2007 and 2013. The reported fee would see Villa make a loss on the 30-year old but he is among the players the club is keen to move on in order to cut the wage bill.
Marseille have identified the experienced midfielder as a target having seemingly given up on their attempts to sign Sanchez’s clubmate Idrissa Gana, who is believed to be out of their price range and favours a move back to the Premier League.
While hit and miss throughout his two-year spell at Villa Park, Sanchez made more tackles than any other teammate in his debut season (2014/15), with 77.
