Leicester have made an enquiry to Sassuolo for the availability of Italian defender Francesco Acerbi, reports Sky Sports.
Claudio Ranieri’s side are expected to be one of the busiest teams in the January transfer window and have already wrapped up a deal to sign Genk midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
However, the reigning Premier League champions won’t stop there and are now looking to bolster their defence with the acquisition of a class defender, with Acerbi currently topping their wishlist.
Leicester aren’t the only side interested in the 28-year-old and Ranieri’s men can expected competition from Inter for the Italy international’s signature next month after they failed to sign him last summer.
Acerbi has completed more interceptions than any other player in Serie A this season (59) and his arrival would certainly add competition for places with Robert Huth and West Morgan. In fact, the former AC Milan defender has been in fine form this season and finished in WhoScored's Serie A Team of the Year for 2016 as the highested rated defender (7.24).
