Premier League duo set for shock England debuts against Germany

Gareth Southgate is set to hand Burnley defender Michael Keane and West Brom midfielder Jake Livermore their England debuts when the Three Lions take on Germany in Dortmund on Wednesday night, reports The Guardian.

The England manager will reportedly test a back-three that will see Keane join Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill at the back, while Livermore will be tasked with stopping the likes of Toni Kroos alongside Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier at the heart of a midfield four.

There have been calls for Keane to make his England debut all season following a thoroughly impressive campaign for Burnley, but Livermore’s inclusion comes as a huge surprise. The 27-year-old started the season for Hull but earned a £10m move to West Brom in January where he has replaced Claudio Yacob in central midfield.

With the likes of Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge all sidelined, Jamie Vardy should be given the nod up front over Marcus Rashford with Dele Alli and Adam Lallana flanking the Leicester City striker.

In the Premier League this season only Steve Cook (181) and Ben Mee (160) have completed more headed clearances than Keane (155).
