West Ham have made an audacious play for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes and are due to meet with the player’s representatives this week, claims The Daily Mirror.
Gomes only joined Barcelona 12 months ago but the Euro 2016 winner has endured a disastrous year since making the surprise €35m (£29.3m) switch to the Camp Nou.
The 24-year-old has previously been linked with big money moves to Manchester United and Juventus but West Ham are looking to take advantage of his precarious position at the club.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are reportedly on the verge of signing Jean-Michael Seri from Nice, which would only limit Gomes’ first-team opportunities further having already signed former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho.
The Hammers will sit down with Gomes’ agent sometime this week to discover whether the Portugal international would be willing to swap the Camp Nou for the London Stadium, although Slaven Bilic’s side are still looking to break their club transfer record to sign his international team-mate, William Carvalho.
Barcelona’s win rate in La Liga dropped from 81% without Gomes in the starting XI to just 64.7% when the Portuguese midfielder started for the Spanish giants.
