Spaniard set to sign new Arsenal deal

Nacho Monreal is on the verge of agreeing a new three-year deal with Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

Monreal, 29, was heavily linked with a return to Spain over the summer but has emerged as a regular for Arsenal this season and is arguably one of the most in-form left-backs in the Premier League at the moment.

The Spain international has entered the final 18 months of the deal he penned when he joined from Malaga for £8.5m in 2013 but is now set to be rewarded for his fine form, with Arsenal determined to ward off interest from interested clubs at the end of the season.

Monreal divided opinion among fans upon his arrival and was regularly cast in and out of the team for Kieran Gibbs during his first two campaigns at the club, but is now Wenger’s undisputed first choice left-back, having started 19 of their 21 league games this season.

He has particularly excelled in the Champions League where only two Arsenal players have garnered a higher WhoScored rating this season (7.46).
