Welbeck could make return earlier than expected

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Danny Welbeck is on course to return to first-team action around the festive period.

Welbeck, 25, was ruled out for nine months in May after undergoing knee surgery but the England international’s recovery has gone better than expected.

Arsene Wenger wasn’t expecting to have Welbeck fit until around February or March but the Arsenal manager has revealed he could now make his return sooner than planned.

“He had an inflammation of his knee and they had to go in again to see if it is healing well or not,” Wenger explained, as quoted by The Daily Mail.

“If the healing was not good, he would have been out until April. But the news was excellent and he will be back around Christmas.

“He had a second check, not a procedure, a check with a camera inside. That was the good news of last week, the only good news. That was very positive.”

Welbeck could make return earlier than expected

Despite only making 11 appearances in 2016, only two Arsenal players have scored more goals than Welbeck (4) in the Premier League.
