Paris Saint-Germain announce shock arrival of Stoke forward
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the shock arrival of Stoke forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on a two-year deal.
Choupo-Moting only joined Stoke 12 months ago but the Potters have offloaded the Cameroon international after being relegated from the Premier League last season.
Thomas Tuchel knows Choupo-Moting well from their respective time spent in the Bundesliga but his arrival at PSG is a huge shock.
“I am extremely honoured to be signing for this big European club Paris Saint-Germain, he told the club’s official website. “I would like to thank the directors and the coach for the confidence they have shown in signing me.
“I will give my absolute maximum out on the pitch, every day, to show my dedication to my new club. Coming to France, a big football country, is a fantastic moment in my career.
“I will be playing with some extraordinary teammates and I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere at the Parc de Princes.”
The former Schalke forward can play right across the front line and will provide back-up for the likes of Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe.
Choupo-Moting was one of the highest earners at Stoke on a reported £60,000-a-week salary and the Championship side have allowed the forward to join PSG on a free transfer in order to reduce their wage bill.
He made 30 appearances in the Premier League last season and returned five goals and five assists for the Potters, particularly excelling in a 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United where he netted twice.
